Wasps and Hornets

Here in the UK there are over 7000 species of wasp, these are both social and solitary. Wasps and hornets feed on sugars from flowers and fruit nectar. Additionally sugars can be made as a by-product from larvae which to feed on. Wasps are one of a pest controllers most stable incomes during the summer months. Understandably, customers don't wish to share their homes and gardens with something that ,lets face it, will sting you without any warning or obvious reason. wasps are known for being more temperamental than bees and can sometimes have attitude issues. With up to 5000 in an average nest it can justifiably result in an assault course just to hang out the washing.

The above video shows a Hornet that we caught early in the season making a nest in a clients spare room. Hornets are the UK's largest species of social wasp and pack more of a punch in there sting. pay attention to the pattern on their abdomen as to not get confused with the invasive Asian hornet.
