Bat droppings

Bat droppings are very common and numerous within our homes and out buildings. Many homes will have had Bats in their loft space at some point. It's important to note that Bats are protected and cannot be harmed in any way, ingress points or building works can also have complications when Bats are roosting within the premises. Please look at Natural England for any legal advise regarding bats. 


From the image above you will be able to see bat droppings in a recent customers property. The droppings are close together and is common to see piles throughout the Loft space. Depending on the Bat species the droppings can vary vastly in size, that said they will always have the same characteristics no matter what species they come from. Bat dropping will appear shiny  (especially in light) this is due to insect shells that Bats cannot digest. they will appear a very dark brown and almost be identical to each other. With all this information it can still be hard to tell bat droppings apart from rodent droppings! so how we can make 100% sure of this is the crumble test. Bat droppings unlike rodent dropping will crumble in your fingers once you add pressure, its a sure fire way of making a accurate a survey when looking for Bats.
